When people think about having a princess party for a little girl, what usually emerges is a royal affair, but there are so many different variations on princess parties that you may be surprised by some of them. If you take your cue from some of the princesses in Disney movies, you will be delighted at all of the things you can do with a princes theme.
For example, one of the most popular themes for birthday parties is the ‘The Little Mermaid’. This involves using an under the sea theme to decorate your home and dressing your child up as a mermaid. You can use sand out of doors and spread shells all over the garden to create an atmosphere of being below the ocean. Many costume shops will be able to provide you with a little mermaid wig and tail for your child, and you can even have a cake made that reflects this theme, with an Ariel figure made of plastic icing or modelling chocolate.
Another great theme to use is the Arabian Nights, as was used in Disney’s ‘Aladdin’. Styling your little girl as Princess Jasmine, you can have a lot of fun hanging carpets around your living room and giving your child fake gold jewellery to wear. You can even have the guests sit on cushions and use an elephant cake, a monkey cake, or a more traditional cake with Jasmine’s face on it.
If you need another idea, why not go for one of Disney’s less traditional princesses, such as Mulan or Anastasia. These themes may be a little harder to put together, but the end result will be quite amazing. You can decorate with Chinese imagery, or around a 1900s Russian theme, or you can go for another movie altogether. The most important thing is identifying what your child likes and asking for their input when planning the party. They are sure to enjoy themselves if they are part of an even that they helped to put together.
And be sure that, no matter which party you decide to go with, you take lots of pictures of the event and your child enjoying it on the day.
